Walking the Talk

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

I read a quote in an Inc.com article the other day that has resonated in my head.

“Our guiding principle has always been that we would never sell anything we wouldn’t eat ourselves.”
– Jessica Applestone, co-founder of Fleisher’s butcher shop, which specializes in grass-fed, organic meats (more…)

Your Company’s Internal Goals Go Beyond Working Capital

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Your company goals are important, but how important are your company goals to your staff members? In our newsletter last week, we gave this piece of advice: We all do things for our own reasons and when you have built that relationship (with your salespeople and staff members) to a point where you understand their real motivation, you can help them perform for their reasons, not yours. We’re continuing our conversation about a fulfilling life (link: previous blog) today. We’re exploring the question, how do you turn your life into a fulfilling one? You may have heard the saying “it’s not about the destination but the journey” and your life journey has 4 focus points: relationships, gratitude, transcendent, and challenges. We’ve talked about relationships and gratitude in past blog posts, but here are a few more pointers. (more…)

How Effective is Your Marketing?

A few weeks ago, I asked how you engage with your audience. It’s also important to have ways to measure what you’re doing. Do you know how effective your marketing is? (more…)

Banks are back–but will they help your company?

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

The banks have recently increased their lending practices, but they’ve definitely learned from the market crisis of 2008–most notably, their need for higher amounts of capital to weather the ups and downs of the economy. Overall, this is a positive trend, but the question remains as to whether or not your bank is willing to lend the necessary funds to cover your cash flow needs. (more…)

The Importance of Small Businesses

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

I recently read a great article, or more specifically a memo to President Obama, that lays out the problems of small businesses very clearly. Although small businesses “account for half of all private-sector jobs in America, and more than 60 percent of the new jobs generated in the past decade,” their struggles are ignored even though they could be a key component to improving the economy. (more…)

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

As I talked about on Tuesday’s blog post, continuing education is important, no matter what industry you work in. Some good sources of education I mentioned were joining associations, taking classes, talking with your peers and teaching classes, but news sites and publications are also helpful and easy to find sources of information.
